Appeal Regarding the Glorification
Of Metropolitan Philaret (Voznesenskii)
To His Eminence,
The Most-eminent Vitaly,
Metropolitan of Eastern America and New York, the First Hierarch of the
Russian Church Abroad
and to the Sobor of Bishops
Of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad
Your Eminence,
Your Eminences, dear Archpastors,
We humbly implore you to
consider the matter of canonizing that great confessor of the Orthodox
Faith, a zealous guardian and defender of the Church of Christ, the First
Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, the ever-memorable
Metropolitan Philaret. Vladyka
Philaret was one of those few pillars of Orthodoxy who restrained the True
Church of Christ from the apostasy of a world lying in evil. Together
with a true confession of the Orthodox Faith, he was also a great
podvizhnik [spiritual athlete],
supplicant before God, and ascetic: those of us who were
Vladyka Philaret's spiritual
children can bear witness not only to the grace-endowing assistance of his
prayers, but also to his gift of clairvoyance.
We believe, that it is
precisely now, more so than at any other time, that we are in need of the
heavenly intercession and assistance of our
Vladyka's prayers.
